About Challenge

Over three days our group will journey through the forested hills, rocky summits and stone villages of the Istria Mountain Trail. With accommodation each night in guest houses / hotels, our group will embark on long days walking, before enjoying local hospitality in picturesque towns.

This is a challenging trek with some long days and hilly terrain. However at three days trekking, it offers a bite-sized adventure, off the beaten track in a beautiful part of Croatia.

The Istria Peninsula in Northern Croatia is a hidden gem with spectacular diverse scenery. With lush green forested hills, limestone peaks, vineyards and medieval hilltop towns.

This is an invitation only trek, aimed at senior business leaders, hosted by EY Foundation CEO Lynne Peabody.

5 day itinerary, 13 – 17 May 2026

Day 1: Fly from UK – transfer to Buzet

The characterful town of Buzet, known for its production of grappa, is the first stop on transferring from the airport. There should be chance to explore the old town and visit a distillery before spending the night.

Day 2: Buzet – Oprtalj – Buzet

A short drive to Oprtalj, a town which marks the start of the Istrian Mountain trail. A day of wooded trails, small villages, farmland and incredible viewpoints, taking in the sights of Mount Učka, the imposing ruins of Pietrapelosa castle and Buzet, our destination, perched picturesquely on a forested hilltop.

Trek 6-7 hours

Day 3: Buzet – Hum – Buzet

A long day passing woodland, lakes and waterfalls and Hum, the world’s smallest town. Hum is the mid-way point, before walking back through the valley to Buzet.

Trek 8-10 hours

Day 4: Buzet – Učka – Lovran

30 min drive to Brgudac where we begin our trek, taking in three peaks:  Kirta Peak (1050m) with views over the Učka massif, the bare rocky peak of Veliki Planik (1272m), the highest point on the Ćićarija plateau and Mount Učka – our highest point at 1401m. After soaking up the views, we drive to Lovran, a lovely historic town on the east coast of the peninsula.

Trek approx. 7-8 hours

Day 5: Transfer to airport, fly to UK
